Obituary

Mildred E. Bergthold, 91 years, of Fort Madison, IA passed away at 8:45 pm Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at The Madison, Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born March 8, 1922 in Houghton, IA to Henry and Rose (Mehmert) Lampe. She married Earl Schwartz on February 3, 1942 in Houghton IA. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1982. She married Richard Bergthold on April 27, 1985. He died on November 8, 1996.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Saint Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, IA and Altar and Rosary Society. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was known for her detailed crochet work, growing beautiful flowers, and playing cards.

She is survived by two daughters, Connie Erby of Bartonville, IL and Earleen (James) Page of Fort Madison, IA; daughter-in-law Virginia Schwartz of West Point, IA; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Cheatham of Bartonville, IL, Lori (Mike) Button of Trivoli, IL, Brian (Cachet) Erby of Bartonville, IL, Randy (Cyndi) Reichelt of Fort Meyers, FL, Kim (Eddie) Broemmer of Chatham, IL, Keith (Connie) Schwartz of Danville, IA, Kurt (Wendi) Schwartz of Donnellson, IA, and Karla (Manny) Sandoval of Donnellson, IA. She is also survived by one sister, Bernice Nichting of Houghton, IA; one brother, Adrian (Barb) Lampe of Houghton, IA; 15 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Schwartz; one son-in-law, Keith Erby; seven brothers, Raymond, Adolph, Leonard, Clarence, Lester, Ernie, and Albert Lampe; and one sister, Agnes King.
Her family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Ossenbrink Center, at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow and be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 26, 2013 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, IA, with Reverend Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Following the Mass her body will be cremated. Private burial of her cremated remains will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, West Point, IA. A memorial has been established for Lee County Hospice or West Point Rescue Squad. Contributions may be made at the Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home, 412 Ave C, P.O. Box 247, West Point, Iowa 52627 or at the church on the day of the services.
