Nina Fern Carr, 92 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 5:40 pm Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the Fort Madison Health Center, Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born June 12, 1919 at Marceline, Missouri, a daughter of William Roy and Lillie Mae (Myers) Zimmerman. On August 7, 1939, she married Russell E. Carr at Lexington, Missouri. He preceded her in death February 3, 1985.
Nina spent most of her life in Fort Madison, Iowa. She went to beauty school and worked as a beautician for a few years. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and ceramics. She was of the Methodist Faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherilyn (husband Jerry) Kamp, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Linda Thye, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one son, Ronald E. (wife Jane) Carr, of West Point, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Joann Zimmerman, of Wickensburg, Arizona and Virginia Zimmerman, of Lisbon, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Mindy (husband Jason) Mohrfield, Julie (husband Nate) Lemley, Stacey (husband Brent) Gansy, Cody (wife Sarah) Kamp, Shane (wife Dana) Thye, Kelly (wife Leslie) Thye and Shannon Thye; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers: Dale "Zeke" Zimmerman and R. Eugene "Gene" Zimmerman.
Her family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Bill Willis, officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for P.A.W.S . Animal Shelter, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
