Norbert Bernard Menke, 61 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 8:34 am Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. Norbert was born May 12, 1950 in Fort Madison, Iowa a son of August Francis "Frank" and Catherine (Hunold) Menke. He married Corinne "Cory" Martin on August 28, 1976 at Evanston, Illinois. Norbert was a lifelong resident of the Fort Madison area. He worked for Sylvester Construction, First Miss Corporation, Iowa State Penitentiary and most recently for Gaylord Construction. Norbert enjoyed construction work, wood working, the outdoors, and being with his family. Norbert was a member of the Eagles Club, served as vice president and helped establish their Horse Shoe Pitching Team. He was of the Catholic Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Corinne Menke, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one son, Eugene Menke, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one daughter, Melissa (husband Byron) Helt, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one brother, Stanley Menke, of St. Paul, Iowa; two sisters, Leona McNary, of Missouri and Sister Monica Menke, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one grandson, Kyle Eugene Menke; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Frank and Maurice Menke, one sister, Glorene Grant, and one son, Kyle James Menke.

Friends may call after 4:00 pm Monday, August 15, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 - 7:30 pm Monday evening. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
