Obituary

Patricia Flo Rupert, 88 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 7:55 pm Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born January 13, 1924 at Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of Carl Gaylord and Ruth (Perry) Latherow. On June 29, 1947, she married Charles J. Rupert at Macomb, Illinois.

Pat was a 1942 graduate of Quincy Senior High School, a member of the National Honor Society and played clarinet in the high school concert band. She was a 1946 graduate of Lindenwood College, St. Charles, Missouri. She studied piano for many years and was a graduate of piano from the Quincy, Illinois Conservatory of Music and was an accompanist for other musicians. During summers between college years, she worked as the athletic director at a camp for young adults in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. After college graduation she first worked as a home economist for Union Electric Company in St. Louis, Missouri and Alton, Illinois. Later, she worked for WGEM Radio, Quincy, Illinois. After moving to Fort Madison, Iowa in 1949, she worked as a bookkeeper for Beimer Plumbing Company and later as a calligrapher. She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, former longtime member of the Fort Madison Country Club, the Ladies Golf Association of the Spring Lake Golf Club, T.T.T. Chapter AY, and Chapter Kappa Kappa of the King's Daughters Association. In addition to being with her family and friends, she enjoyed calligraphy, reading, traveling, and golfing.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Rupert, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one son, Craig Rupert, of Richmond, Virginia; two daughters, Ann (husband William) Matthews, of St. Louis, Missouri and Janet (husband Alex) Bassel, of St. Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren, Katie and Scott Bassel and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Joyce Harper and Joan Bonnett, and one brother, Paul Latherow.

Friends may call after 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Barr Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Barr Memorial Chapel, with Reverend Mark Binder officiating. A committal service and burial will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. A memorial has been established for Lindenwood University, St. Charles, Missouri. Contributions may be made at Barr Memorial Chapel or at the graveside service.
