Pete Eicher, 63, died Friday, September 30, 2011 at Fort Madison Community Hospital after losing his
courageous battle with bladder cancer.
He was born October 4, 1947 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Clayton and Wanda (Coppage) Eicher.
After graduation, in 1965 from Fort Madison Senior High he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
Pete honorably served his country in the 1st Marine Air Wing as a helicopter machine gunman. His tour
included Dong Ha, Hue Phu Bar, Da Nang and Que Sahn. After returning to the United Sates he served as
an instructor at the Philadelphia Naval Base where he helped conduct military honors for Viet Nam
Veterans.
In 1968 he married Connie Brown in Ft. Madison. Together they had three children who survive him;
TeAhnna Eicher of Fort Madison, Nicole (Lynn) Chandler of Las Vegas, and Pete (Margo) Eicher of West
Des Moines. He later married Shannon Goff.
Pete is also survived by his six grandchildren; Iry and Imonie Eicher of Ft. Madison, Paige and Andrew
Nichols of Las Vegas, Amanda Eicher of Iowa City and Clayton Eicher of West Des Moines and siblings;
Ron (Mary Ann) Bruno of Iowa City, Yolanda Cheek of League City, TX, Phyllis (Leonard) Anderson of
Ft. Madison, Connie Clark of Donnellson and Rick Eicher of Le Claire, IA. Several nieces and nephews
and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Rio Bruno.
Pete was an avid wood worker and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Loyal Order of
Moose. He was most proud of his grandchildren as they were his pride and joy.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Barr Memorial Chapel. Visitation will
be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Urn burial will be held at the Eicher Mennonite Cemetery in Wayland, Iowa at a later date.
Memorials have been established to The Wounded Warrior Project contributions may be made at the
funeral home.
Pete's family would like to thank all of his friends who brought food, prayers and cards to the hospital along
with the staff of The Cancer Treatment Center, Lee County Hospice and the staff of Ft. Madison
Community Hospital for their loving care.
