Richard Jay Wells, 53 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died unexpectedly Sunday, April 6, 2025 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, Fort Madison. He was born November 17, 1971, the son of Richard H and Juanita (Moore) Wells. He married Mandy (Yurth) Wells. They had two children, Daniel and Matthew. They later divorced but remained friends.
Jay was a graduate of Fort Madison High School. He was a mechanic. He worked for Ike Mertens, Andy's Service Center, and River City Motors before venturing out on his own. He enjoyed wrenching on cars and fixing things. He also liked flying his drone, remote control trucks and cars, riding his dirt bike and motorcycle, boating, camping, and fishing.
He is survived by his mother, Juanita Shelton of Fort Madison; three children: Daniel Wells, Matthew Wells, and Tiffany Pennington, all of Fort Madison; four grandchildren: Richard, Ryder, Andre, and Damien; his significant other, Jessica Linn, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard, and step-father, James Shelton.
His family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A Memorial Service will follow and begin at 11:00 am Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
