Obituary

Richard Anthony "Dick" Bruhl, 91 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Monday, December 14, 2020 at The Kensington, Fort Madison. He was born February 3, 1929 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of George and Elise (Rauenbuehler) Bruhl. On April 14, 1951, he married Marilyn Troja in Alabama.

Dick was a lifelong resident of Fort Madison. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served during the Korean War. For 36 years, he worked at the Iowa State Penitentiary, retiring as shift captain in 1992. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Knights of Columbus, Altar and Rosary Society and Boy Scout Troop 29 and 26. He was an Eagle Scout and served on the Eagle Scout Board of Review. Dick was a Chicago Cubs fan, and he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, camping and boating on the river.

He is survived by his son, Tim (Jill) Bruhl, of Fort Madison; two grandchildren, Justine (Brian) Davis and Ross (Lynette) Bruhl; four great grandchildren: Amelia, Kendric, Samantha, and Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother, Ted.

Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. A private burial will be held at a later date at Gethsemane Cemetery, Fort Madison. A memorial has been established for Camp Eastman Development Association, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Bruhl family.
