Richard Otis "Dick" Shriver, 83 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 12:50 pm Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, Iowa. Dick was born January 21, 1929 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Otis and Vera (Munford) Shriver. On December 25, 1951 he married Darlene Grace Reid, at the Santa Fe United Methodist Church, Fort Madison, Iowa.
Dick was an engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was an Elder at the Fort Madison 7th Day Adventist Church. He was veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War in Africa and then at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base at Tucson, Arizona as a X-ray technician.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Shriver, of Fort Madison, Iowa; three sons: Timothy (wife Robin) Shriver, of DeForest, Wisconsin, Todd Shriver, of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Jon Shriver, of Waunakee, Wisconsin; one daughter, Deborah (husband Joel) Ockenga, Nampa, Idaho; two brothers, Jerry (wife Lily) Shriver, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Donald (wife Joan) Shriver, of Olathe, Kansas; one sister, Bonnie Shriver-Tompkins, of Madison, Illinois; five grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Michael Timothy Shriver.
Per his wishes his body has been cremated. A memorial service is planned for 4:00 pm, Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Fort Madison 7th Day Adventist Church. A memorial has been established for the Keokuk Area Hospital Hospice, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel or at the church on the day of the service.
