Robert William "Bill" Bergman, 85 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 10:39 am Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born May 24, 1928 at Fort Madison the son of William and Martha (McMonigle) Bergman. On June 16, 1948, he married Ruth Rose Watznauer at Fort Madison, Iowa. She preceded him in death February 15, 2008.

Bill was a 1947 graduate of Fort Madison High School. He owned and operated the Bergman Drug Store in Fort Madison from 1947 until 1967 when he went to work as a Sales Representative for the Moorman Manufacturing Company of Quincy, IL retiring in 1989. Bill then operated the Bergman Christmas Tree Farm outside Fort Madison until 2003. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and Wii bowling.
He is survived by two sons: James (wife Kathleen) Bergman, of Brookfield, Missouri and Fritz (wife Jean) Bergman, of Donnellson, Iowa; two daughters: Amy (husband Paul) Waters and Billie Jean (husband Thomas) Gerveler, both of Fort Madison, Iowa; one sister Martha (Jack) Hulsey, of St. Louis, Missouri; nine grandchildren: Molly, Angie, Charles, Emily, Polly, Ruthe, Wesley, Ryan and Kelsey; 13 great grandchildren: Jerrad, Lily, Brad, Georgia, Brent, Isaac, Will, Emma, Demi, Anna, Nicolas, Carmen and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. His family will greet friends from 4:00 - 6:00 pm Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. Private burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison at a later date. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
