Obituary

Ronald Steve Gansy, 85, Donnellson, Iowa died August 18, 2022 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. He was born April 6, 1937 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Steve and Maxine Hazel (Finley) Gansy. On June 22, 1958, he married Marilyn Kay Sulzberger, they had four children: Deb, Karen, Brian, and Brent. She preceded him in death August 14, 2013. On November 14, 2015 he married Carol Kephart. She preceded him in death on March 16, 2017.

He was a lifelong resident of the Fort Madison area. In 1955, he graduated from Fort Madison High School, and later attended the University of Iowa. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1956 to 1960. He retired as a shift supervisor for Chevron in 1988 after 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and traveling with his wife, Marilyn.

He is survived by four children: Deb (Joe) Kokjohn of Fort Madison, Iowa; Karen Malcom of New London, Iowa; Brian (Melissa) Gansy of Ottawa, Kansas and Brent (Stacey) Gansy of Fort Madison; eight grandchildren: Chad (Courtney) Kokjohn, Curt (Morgan) Kokjohn, Chris (Calean) Kokjohn, Kala Holtkamp, Dakotah Malcom, Steven Gansy, Nicole Gansy, and Kanyon (Katie) Gansy; and eight great grandchildren: Kaiden, Cael, Colton, Cooper, Finley, Colin, Cohen, and Bennett. He is also survived by Carol's family: Robert (Carol) Kephart of Donnellson, Iowa; Angela (Randy) Kruse of Salem, Iowa; John Smithburg of New London, Iowa; and Katrina (Kevin) Gipple of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, Marilyn and Carol, and one granddaughter, Brianna.

A private graveside service and burial will be at the Claypoole Cemetery, rural Wever, Iowa, with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice and PAWS, contributions may be mailed to the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
