Obituary

Rosalia A. "Rose" Palmer, 96 years, of West Point, Iowa, died at 3:10 pm Sunday, June 19, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born September 5, 1914 at Salem, Iowa a daughter of George and Veronica (Pauly) Rung. On October 9, 1934, she married Frank Bohnenkamp. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1947. On April 26, 1952, she married James Lawrence Palmer at the St. Mary's of Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2010.

Rose worked for Sheaffer Pen Company, retiring after 17 years of service. She was a member of the St. Mary's of Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, Iowa, the Daughters of Isabella and was the last of the charter members of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 668, of West Point. She enjoyed spending time with her children.

She is survived by four daughters: Susanne Perry, of Batavia, Illinois; Ruth Sundberg, of Houston, Texas; Nancy (husband Thomas) Beattie, of Quincy, Illinois and Viv Palmer, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two sons:
F. David (wife Delores) Bohnenkamp, of West Chicago, Illinois and Ronald (wife Christine) Bohnenkamp of Solan, Iowa; two brothers: Paul Rung, of Tucson, Arizona; Bernard Rung, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one sister, Dorothy Tapajna, of Flossmoor, Illinois; 17 grandchildren, 33 great grand children, three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both her husbands, one son, Leslie Bohnenkamp, one sister, Helen Smith and two brothers, George Rung and Richard Rung.

The body of Mrs. Palmer has been cremated. No visitation has been planned. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday June 25, 2011 at the St. Mary's of Assumption Catholic Church, West Point, Reverend Dennis Hoffman officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery, West Point, Iowa. Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home, West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
