Rosemary Ann Cash, 86 years, of West Point, Iowa and formerly of Houghton, Iowa died at 5:50 am Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, Iowa. She was born June 27, 1927, a daughter of Alois and Marie (Pomberg) Hellweg. On November 23, 1974, she married Maurice Cash at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death May 5, 1985.
She was born and raised in Houghton, Iowa, and graduated from St. John's Catholic High School. She attended college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she lived for 63 years. She taught school for many years, then worked as an interior decorator for J.C. Penny. She moved back to Iowa in 2008. She enjoyed her family and friends, doing puzzles, playing bingo and cards, and listening to music and sports. Especially the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers, however since moving back to Iowa, she followed the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
She is survived by her two sisters: Alvera (husband Gene) Merschman, of St. Paul, Iowa and Lucille (husband Gary) Olson, of Houghton, Iowa; one brother, Carl (wife LaVina) Hellweg, of Houghton, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Joseph Hellweg, one sister, Clarice Abolt, and one nephew, Mike Abolt.
Per her wishes, her body has been cremated. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Monday, May 19, 2014 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Houghton, Iowa, with Father Bruce DeRammelaere as Celebrant. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Houghton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. James the Less Catholic Church, and St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church. Contributions may be made at the church during the service or at the Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home, West Point.
