Sandra L. Cowles was born July 17, 1962 at Waukegan, Illinois a daughter of Herbert L "Lee" Thibedeau and Ruby L. Chandler. On February 14, 2002, she married Michael Cowles at Fort Madison, Iowa. He survives. Sandy was an avid Nascar fan. She was a noted tropical fish hobbyist and conservationist. She was of the Christian faith.

At 47 years of age, she died at 11:45 am Friday, April 16, 2010 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. She is survived by her husband, Michael Cowles, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one step-son, Chris (wife Karen) Cowles, of Rock Island, Illinois; four step grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles,
and caring and loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one stepson, Michael Cowles.

Friends may call after 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, where the family will meet friends from 5:30 - 6:30 pm Wednesday evening. Funeral services will follow at 6:30 pm Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Pastor Bill Willis will officiate. Services will conclude at the funeral home. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
