Scott Ryan Smith, 29 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died Monday June 17, 2013 in Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born February 28, 1984 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, the son of Tracy L. (Dorethy) Smith.

He was a 2002 graduate of Fort Madison High School. He received his AA degree from Southeastern Community College. He work for 10 years at Shottenkirk. He enjoyed politics and was active with the Democratic party during college and in Lee County. He loved the outdoors, hiking, reading, and performing with the Old Fort Players. Scott truly loved being an uncle to his five nieces and nephews and in many ways was a kid at heart.

He is survived by two sisters: Erica (husband Matthew) Conner, of North Carolina and Amber (husband Joseph) Larkin, of Fort Madison, Iowa; his grandparents, Walter and Doris Dorethy, of Soda Springs, Idaho; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.

His body has been cremated. His family will greet friends from 6:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will following and be held at 7:00 pm Thursday evening with Pastor Bill Willis, officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa.
