Shirley Ann Jeffries, 78 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 3:29 pm Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at her residence at The Kensington, in Fort Madison, Iowa. She was born March 29, 1934 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a daughter of Walter and Mildred (Leveling) Guenther. On October 22, 1955, she married Ralph Jeffries at Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2009.
Shirley worked in the office at MidAmerican Energy for many years. She was a member of Holy Family Parish. Shirley and her husband, Ralph, loved to travel and wintered in the south for many years. She enjoyed reading, camping, crafts, spending time with her family, and was a loyal Hawkeye fan.
She is survived by her mother, Mildred Guenther, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two sons, John (Angie) Jeffries, of Burlington, Iowa and William (Debbie) Jeffries, of Spring Hill, Kansas; three daughters: Suzan (Gary) Menke, of West Point, Iowa; Julie (Jim Anderson) Wellman, of West Point, Iowa; Amy (Rick) Thompson, of Overland Park, Kansas; two brothers, Gary Guenther, of Arizona and Mike (Gina) Guenther, of Texas; two sisters, Maribeth Guenther and Beverly (John) Schmitt, both of Colorado; ten grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, husband, and an infant son.
Shirley died of complications from Alzheimers, per her wishes her body has been donated to the University of Iowa, Deeded Body Program. Private family services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for Iowa Hospice and The Kensington, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa.
