Spencer Joseph O'Ryan, 31 years, of Montrose, Iowa died at 1:42 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on January 7, 2011 near Keokuk, Iowa. He was born March 23, 1979 at Winchester, Virginia the son of Deborah (Meierotto) Todd. Spencer grew up in the Fort Madison area. He moved the east coast for a period of time and then back to the Fort Madison area in 2007. He had an avid interest in martial arts and was a 4th Degree Black Belt. He was the Master Instructor and owner of Mixed Martial Arts University in Keokuk. He was of the Christian faith.
Spencer is survived by his mother, Deborah Mapes, of Montrose, Iowa; his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Margie Meierotto, of Fort Madison, Iowa; his paternal grandmothers, Barbara Mauck, of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Martha Knott Putz, of Shepardstown, West Virginia; one sister, Amanda Mapes, of DeKalb, Illinois;
six uncles, two aunts, numerous cousins, and his dog, Stella. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert Putz, and one aunt.
His body has been cremated. His family will greet friends from 2:00 - 4:00 pm Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, with Father Mark Spring officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
