Obituary

Stanley Frank Gelsthorpe, 78 years, of West Point, Iowa died 4:45 am July 7, 2011 at the West Point Care Center, West Point, Iowa. He was born February 8, 1933 at Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of George Edward and Ethel Lorriane (Giboney) Gelsthorpe. On June 20, 1953, he married Barbara J. Wells at Fort Madison, Iowa. She preceded him in death.

He was a lifelong resident of the Lee County area. For 20 years, he worked as a production worker at Dial Corporation. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, 6 years active service and 20 years reserve, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was of the Christian faith.

Stanley is survived by two daughters: Laura Frueh, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Linda Gelsthorpe, of West Point, Iowa; three grandchildren: Michael Frueh and Chevy Frueh, both of Fort Madison, Iowa and Stephen Gelsthorpe, of Burlington, Iowa; and three great grandsons: Zeke, Ethan and Braydyn. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Barb, two brothers, and one sister.

Family will greet friends one hour before service time from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Tuesday July 12, 2011 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2010 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Pastor Bill Willis will officiate. Burial with full military rites will be at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel. Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison is in charge of arrangements.
