Steven Joseph Kious was born December 28, 1961 at Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Charles E. and LaVerne Lilly (Bohnenkamp) Kious. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended Aquinas High School. He first worked as a carpenter's assistant with his father, and then graduated from Southeastern Community College and Iowa Wesleyan College. He was currently working for the Daily Democrat. He was a member of Holy Family Parish. He also attended St. John's United Church of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He was a lifelong learner and loved to read.
At 48 years of age, he died Friday, July 16, 2010 at his home in Fort Madison, Iowa. He is survived by his mother, LaVerne Kious, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two sisters, Sandra (husband Brian) Holterhaus, of Hiawatha, Iowa and Lisa (husband Don) Hamilton, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two nieces, one nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Kious.
The body of Steven Kious has been cremated. His family will greet friends from 12:00 - 1:00 pm Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. A Memorial Service will be held at be 1:00 pm Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, with Reverend Mark Spring, officiating. A memorial has been established for the Fort Madison Pubic Library, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
