Steven Lee Powelson, 66 years, of Niota, Illinois died Thursday, January 30, 2020 at his home. He was born August 6, 1953, a son of Gerald M and Rita L (Luton) Powelson. He married Judy Hogan, to this marriage they had two sons, Derrick and David. They later divorced.

Steve attended LaHarpe High School. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and later for a company in Missouri doing industrial painting. He loved gardening and hosting fish fries on his property.

Steve is survived by two sons, Derrick Hayes of Alaska and David Powelson of Nauvoo, Illinois; two brothers, Roger (Kim) Powelson of Clifton Hill, Missouri and Matt Powelson of Niota, Illinois; three sisters: Gerry Pohlpeter, Sherry (Rocky) Aschbrenner and Jeanne (Donny) Hogan, all of Fort Madison, Iowa; two grandchildren, Madison and Clair; nieces, nephews, aunts and an uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.

His body has been cremated. A fish fry to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Barr Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Powelson family.
