Sylvia Ann Pohlpeter, 79 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 7:30 am Friday, June 1, 2012 at her home. She was born October 7, 1932 at Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Myrtle (Miller) Pohlpeter. She was a lifelong resident of Fort Madison. In 1951, she graduated from the Fort Madison High School. She worked for Maher Finance, Hopkirk-Feightner Insurance and Lampe Drug Store Home Health. She loved reading, watching western movies, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish.

She is survived by one brother: Larry (wife Frances) Pohlpeter, of Oklahoma; four sisters: Mary Lou Fairlie, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Carmen and Peggy Pohlpeter; Connie (husband Robert) Bunker, all of Fort Madison, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Glenda Pohlpeter, of Des Moines, Iowa; Ann Pohlpeter and Nellie Pohlpeter, both of Fort Madison, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers: Richard, Ray, Rolland, Paul & Royce and two sisters: Betty Glassford and Shirley Black.

Her family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa, with a Christian Wake Service being held at 7:00 pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison, with Reverend David Wilkening, as celebrant. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for Alzheimers Association and Lee County Hospice, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel or at the church at the time of service.
