Obituary

Ted Ray Knapp, 83 years, of West Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 1:46 am Friday January 6, 2017 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. Ted was born March 31, 1933 in Centerville, Iowa a son of Arthur Roscoe and Cecil Mary (Maxwell) Knapp. He married Bette Wetteland on June 20, 1953. She preceded him in death.

Ted was a civil engineer for the United States Army and through out his life. He was a volunteer football coach with the Pop Warner league and loved rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes. A musician and luthier, he was passionate about all things guitars. Creative and artistic, he drew inspiration and peace from the outdoors, his dog Tramp, and of course his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Rene (Mike) Maki, of Round Rock, Texas and Toni Lynette (Wayne) Lebeck, of Dallas City, Illinois; one daughter-in-law Shari Knapp, of Georgia; two brothers, Jerry Knapp, of Centerville, Iowa and John (Betty) Knapp, of New York; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Ted Jeffery Knapp, four brothers, and two sisters.

Family will greet friends from 10:00 - 11:30 am Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison. Following the visitation his body will be cremated. Graveside services and burial for Ted and Bette Knapp will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. Full military rites at graveside will be accorded Ted.
