Thelma Marie Doty, 79 years, of Fort Madison, died Friday February 7, 2014 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. She was born January 21, 1935 at Caldwell, Idaho, a daughter of Dirk John and Lillian M. (Stevens) Vanderwilt. On May 2, 1952 she married Robert Charles Doty at Boise, Idaho. He survives.

She was a homemaker. She also owned and operated a private employment agency for a number of years. Robert and Thelma moved to Fort Madison in 2006 to be closer to their children and their church. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Doty, of Fort Madison, Iowa; one son, Steven (wife GayLynn) Doty, of Lansing, Michigan; three daughters: Delma Rae Menke, of Logan, Utah; Karen (husband Kevin) Rackham, of Burlington, Iowa; Linda (husband Ronald) Hanes, of Muskegon, Michigan; one brother, Donald (wife Connie) Vanderwilt, of Los Angeles, California; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Barbara and Phyllis, and one nephew, Tim.

The body of Mrs. Doty has been cremated. The family has made plans to have Memorial Services at 1:00 PM Saturday February 22, 2014 at the Fort Madison Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2193 Old Denmark Road. President Byron Smith will preside.
