Velma A. Feightner, 96, of Sarasota FL and formerly of Fort Madison, IA passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in Florida.
She was born on July 8, 1920 to Leo H. and Lena Menke Watznauer in Dodge City, Kansas. At a very early age her family relocated to Ft. Madison IA. She married Oscar Paul Mahan, who preceded her in death in 1962. In 1965, she married Jack R. Feightner. He preceded her in death. Velma was an active woman always willing to give of her time and talents whether to her family, her Catholic parish, or as a volunteer. She was the hub of her family whether they were in Europe, California, Florida, or anywhere else, Velma was "home" base.
She is survived by seven children and stepchildren: Bonnie (Clay) Sperry of San Jose CA, Jim Mahan of Siesta Key, FL, Lee (Mary Kay) Mahan of Madison, AL and Marty (Mary Beth) Mahan of Naples, FL and three stepdaughters: Sarah Godwin of Macclenny, FL, Betsy Hutton of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Susan Feightner of Ponte Vedra, FL. In addition, she has 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Oscar Paul Mahan, her second husband Jack R. Feightner, three sisters (Virginia, Irene, and Betty), daughter-in-law, Diane Mahan (Jim), son-in-law, Art Sussman (Susan), son-in-law Steve Godwin (Sarah), and one granddaughter, Jenny Mahan.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am Friday, June 23, 2017 at Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish, Fort Madison with Rev. Tony Herald as Celebrant. A committal service and burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you simply say a prayer or two for her at your next opportunity.
