Obituary

William Robert "Bob" Allen, 86 years, of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 12:35 pm Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. He was born July 3, 1928 at Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Lester and Emma (Huey) Allen. On June 9, 1957, Bob married Joan Kern in Riverside, Iowa. The had three children: Kim, Bill, and Brian.

He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a 1946 graduate of Fort Madison High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He then earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Iowa. He was the Regional Manager for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Services for the State of Iowa retiring in 1993.

He is survived by one daughter, Kim A. Allen (Randy VanWye), of Fort Madison, Iowa; two sons, Bill (Barb) Allen, of Montrose, Iowa and Brian K. (Beth) Allen, of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; two grandsons, Brock (Maria) Allen and Brett (Ali Miller) Allen; two step-grandsons, Derek (Sarah) Matlock and Laine Matlock; two great grandchildren, Bennett Allen and Hannah Matlock; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother James and four sisters: Edna Hayes, Goldie Hayes, Louise Hayes and June Scott.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 pm Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services, Fort Madison. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services, Fort Madison, Iowa with Pastor Bill Willis officiating. A private family burial with full military rites will be at Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Lee County Health Department Hospice, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel and Cremation Services.
