Wilma Marie Stevens, 91 yrs., of Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa died at 8:12 am Tuesday March 20, 2012 at the Great River Medical Center, Burlington, Iowa. She was born February 12, 1921 at rural Lee County, near Donnellson, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Hilda Barbara (Galle) Sprenger. On May 29, 1942, she married William E. Stevens at Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death April 18, 1988.
She lived most of her life in Fort Madison, Iowa. She worked at Sheaffer Pen for many years, retiring in 1983. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, traveling, and playing dominos with her family. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army for many years. She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ.
She is survived by one daughter: Kathy (husband Walter) Kent, of Burlington, Iowa; one son: J Scott (wife Sindra) Stevens, of Fort Madison, Iowa; two daughters-in-law, Joan Stevens, of Fort Madison, Iowa and Judy Stevens, of Davenport, Iowa; two brothers: Raymond (wife Bonnie) Sprenger, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Robert (wife Sue) Sprenger, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; six sisters: Ruth Carter, of Frenchtown, Montana; Fern Wagle, of Sturgis, Michigan; Martha (husband Eldon) Sheneman, of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania; Dorothy Sprenger, of Boone, Iowa; Nancy Stuekerjuergen, of West Point, Iowa; Isla Stuetelberg, of Atlantic, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Erma Sprenger, of Donnellson, Iowa and Ida Sprenger, of Fort Madison, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Guy Stevens, Hazel Stevens, Jesse Stevens, Gabriella Hayes, John Stevens, Paul Stevens, Audra Stevens, Andrew Stevens, Lee Kent, and Suzanne Pierson; eight great grandchildren: Chloe Stevens, Owen Stevens, Grant Hayes Katlyn Kent, Lauryn Kent, Avery Pierson, Abby Pierson, and Tyler Pierson; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William, two sons, Kenton Stevens and Donald Stevens, two brothers, Walter Sprenger and Carroll Sprenger, and three brothers-in-law: Richard Carter, Paul Stuekerjuergen, and Fred Stuetelberg.
Per Mrs. Stevens wishes, her body has been cremated. Family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:00 pm Friday March 23, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Saturday March 24, 2012 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa. Reverend Mark Binder will officiate. Burial will be at Soldiers Circle, Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Salvation Army
